Belarusian-Lithuanian border checkpoint Privalka now reconstructed

The automobile border checkpoint Privalka has become the best equipped border checkpoint at the Belarusian border. The statement was made by Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus of Belarus Leonid Maltsev after the ceremony held on 24 September to mark the end of the reconstruction of the border checkpoint, BelTA has learned. “Today it is necessary to make the border-crossing experience accessible and comfortable in addition to putting up a barrier against law violators. Physical infrastructure and equipment are important for reaching the goal in addition to efforts to improve the operation of the border service and the customs service. In this regard the border checkpoint Privalka is the most up-to-date one,” believes the Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus. The border checkpoint is fitted with the latest equipment for communication, video and audio surveillance. New software solutions have been deployed to reduce the time it takes to cross the border as much as possible. Work is constantly in progress to master the technical means that accelerate border-crossing procedures and record 100% of the vehicles and persons that cross the border utilizing vehicle plate recognition and video surveillance. The customs service station has deployed a system to analyze and manage risks as well as green and red corridors. Apart from that, construction work is nearing completion to install a stationary vehicle scanner in November. The facility is being built in accordance with Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus transboundary cooperation program. The new equipment will accelerate the inspection of trucks by roughly ten times. According to Chief of the Grodno Oblast Customs Office Vasily Dementei, similar equipment is being installed in the border checkpoints Bruzgi and Berestovitsa at the Belarusian-Polish border. “According to our estimations, taking into account the measures that have been adopted the border checkpoint Privalka should experience no queues. We expect 20-30 vehicles at most to queue to cross the border even in peak hours,” said Leonid Maltsev. The reconstruction of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border checkpoint Privalka is part of the complex program meant to enhance the infrastructure of automobile border checkpoints at the Belarusian border in 2011-2015. The bulk of the work to reconstruct the international border checkpoint was completed in October 2013.
