Grodno State University plans to join European Educational Space

Yanka Kupala Grodno State University is going to get integrated into the European Educational Space, Rector of the University Evgeny Rovba told media at a meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the university on 22 February.

Integration into the global and, first of all, European Educational Space is the university’s objective for the next five years. “If our previous goal was to become a leading regional university, now we would like to become integrated into the European Educational Space,” said Evgeny Rovba. The council of the university has already approved the new development strategy.

The university is set to develop partnership with Russian and Western European universities and implement joint innovative educational projects.

The university intends to develop close cooperation with companies of the region, leading Belarusians universities and the National Academy of Sciences. “Today we should train specialists for the future, develop applied sciences, and help our companies grow stronger to some extent,” said the rector. The scheme of departments and major disciplines will inevitably change and the material and technical basis of the university together with the scientific potential of the departments will develop in the course of time.

Due to the geographic position, Grodno State University develops mutually beneficial cooperation with universities of Poland, Lithuania and Germany, first deputy rector Ivan Burlyko told BelTA. In turn, strong partnership links will allow the university to take part in European educational programs, international technical aid projects.

Specialists of Grodno and Bialystok universities will be working on creating universal innovative educational complexes in law, biology and other majors and establishing distant learning programs. In September 2010 the Grodno university opens a class to train IT specialists. The class is created by the High-Technology Park and Indian Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). The Belarusian university and the University of Biberbach from Germany are developing a master construction management project. The project will use the curricula unified with those used in Germany, which is especially important as the Belarusian construction industry is applying European standards.

Yanka Kupala Grodno State University will hold various events to mark the 70th anniversary since its founding on 22-26 February.
