festival was celebrated on the Augusto Canal on the night of 5 July,

Residents of the city of Grodno and Grodno District and guests
gathered at the Dombrovka sluice to get in touch with the traditional
Belarusian customs and rites. “We do not change the location for the
event. We have been gathering for five years now. Every year this event
growing more popular,” said Oksana Grintsevich, director of the Grodno
district culture and information center. he
program began with a Kupala wreath workshop. A female wreath is made
mainly of birch branches, a male one - oak branches. You can use any
flowers and herbs although in the past it was mainly medicinal herbs.
“As you know, wreaths were made by unmarried girls for fortune telling.
It was said that the more beautiful the wreath was, the more likely it
was for a girl to meet a very good husband. There is no secret in
weaving, the main thing is to put branches tightly so that the wreath
will hold and do not break,” said Svetlana Tour, choirmaster of the folk
choir of the Kvasovka culture and folk art center. After the workshop the girls floated the wreaths on the water. The
program of the holiday also included a workshop in dances, a concert of
the folk group Uladary and a bonfire.
